Reflecting on 2024: Consentmo’s Year in Review
As we say goodbye to 2024 and welcome the opportunities of a new year, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve had. At Consentmo, we’ve worked hard this year to bring Shopify merchants the tools and features they need to navigate the complex world of data privacy compliance. From introducing new features to updating our app’s UX/UI and keeping pace with evolving laws, 2024 has been nothing short of transformative.
In this blog, we’ll recap the highlights of the year - exciting updates to our app, new compliance laws, and even a special success story from one of our merchants. Let’s take a look back at what we accomplished together!
Adapting to New Laws Across the Globe
This year, data privacy regulations continued to evolve, with new laws introduced in regions across the globe. And of course we stayed ahead of the curve to help our merchants stay compliant with these changes. Here are some of the new laws we supported in 2024:
U.S. State Laws
From Texas to Florida, Oregon, Utah and Montana, more U.S. states introduced consumer privacy regulations. Our U.S. laws blog offers a comprehensive look at how these laws impact Shopify merchants.
Privacy Laws in Australia and New Zealand
We brought tailored compliance features to address the Australian Privacy Act (APA) and New Zealand Privacy Act (NZPA), helping Shopify merchants in these regions stay on top of data protection. Dive deeper into the specifics in our Australian and New Zealand laws blog.
Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) Thailand’s PDPA establishes comprehensive guidelines for collecting, using, and disclosing personal data. This law aligns closely with global standards like GDPR, requiring businesses to obtain consent for data processing and safeguard customer data. Learn more here.
South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)
Consentmo provides the tools merchants need to comply with POPIA, making it easy to meet the requirements of this law while focusing on your store’s growth. Explore more here.
Introducing New Features to Support Merchants
At Consentmo, we’re committed to building features that make managing compliance easier and more effective. Here are some of the major updates we rolled out in 2024:
New Dashboard
We unveiled a new dashboard designed to give merchants better insights into their compliance efforts. The updated dashboard provides a clean, intuitive interface and powerful analytics tools. Learn more about this update here.
Adaptive Mobile Experience
Recognizing the importance of mobile shoppers, we introduced a responsive cookie bar that adjusts to any device. This feature ensures your compliance efforts work just as effectively on mobile as on desktop. Check out the details here.
Checkout Block for Shopify Plus Merchants
For Shopify Plus merchants, we launched the Checkout Block to help address data compliance at the checkout stage. It’s another way we’re helping merchants manage compliance at every touchpoint. Learn more here.
Google Drive Backup
Merchants can now schedule recurring backups of their compliance data directly to Google Drive. This feature makes data storage and access more convenient. Read all about it here.
Powerful Integrations to Expand Compliance Options
This year, we expanded Consentmo’s integrations to make compliance management even more comprehensive and aligned with global standards. Here’s a closer look at what we introduced:
TCF Integration
TCF IAB Europe compliance is a critical standard for merchants involved in digital advertising. By integrating with TCF, Consentmo helps Shopify merchants comply with ad industry requirements while maintaining transparency around how data is collected, shared, and used. This integration is particularly useful for merchants using ad networks like Google Ads or participating in programmatic advertising. It allows merchants to clearly communicate consent choices to their advertising partners, helping them operate within privacy regulations like GDPR while optimizing their ad strategies.
Google Certified CMP
Becoming a Google Certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) is a huge step forward. This certification means that Consentmo is recognized as a trusted partner for managing consent in Google’s ecosystem. For Shopify merchants, this ensures that your store can handle consent requirements for Google tools such as Google Ads and Google Analytics. It’s especially important for businesses running international campaigns, as it allows you to align with global privacy regulations like GDPR while using Google’s advertising solutions effectively.
Google Consent Mode V2
This update builds on our integration with Google tools, allowing merchants to manage consent settings more effectively. With Consent Mode V2, you can track essential data while respecting user preferences. For example, when a user declines tracking cookies, Consent Mode automatically adjusts data collection for tools like Google Analytics and Ads to operate in a privacy-friendly way.
GPC Signals
Global Privacy Control (GPC) is gaining traction as a way for users to express their privacy preferences with a single browser setting. Consentmo’s GPC integration automatically recognizes and honors these signals, providing an extra layer of compliance for merchants. It’s a step toward more seamless data privacy management, especially for regions where GPC is becoming more widely adopted.
A Fresh Look for Consentmo
In 2024, we rolled out several UX/UI updates to improve the overall experience for our merchants. From a streamlined quick setup to updates in tabs like Consent Log, Translation, and Design, we focused on making the app easier to navigate and use.
Looking ahead, 2025 will bring even more updates to further refine our app’s usability. Stay tuned - we’re just getting started!
Oh!Good’s Success Story
One of the highlights of the year was hearing from our merchants about how Consentmo has made a difference for their businesses. A standout example is Oh!Good, a vegan brand that uses Consentmo to balance innovation and data privacy. Their success story is a testament to how Shopify merchants can thrive while staying compliant. Read more about their journey here.
