Black Friday Cyber Monday 2022: A Recap of Record-Breaking Sales
Black Friday Cyber Monday was not even a week away and we survived for another year! So now, let's go back and look at the numbers, to see what went as planned and how to improve for next year's shopping holiday.
Shopify during BFCM
This has been a record-breaking year for Shopify and its merchants. More than 52 million shoppers globally purchased from brands powered by Shopify this year, a 12% increase from 2021.
"This year, Black Friday Cyber Monday showed us once again that consumers are voting with their wallets to support the independent brands they love. We saw record level shopping happening across all channels this weekend, proving businesses that meet their customers where they are, whether that’s online or in-person, will earn their loyalty in return."
- Harley Finkelstein, President of Shopify
Here are the highlighted numbers:
- Black Friday saw the highest shopping volume moment during the weekend, with peak sales of more than $3.5 million per minute.
- Shoppers’ spending climbed across many countries, with consumers globally spending $102.10 per order on average throughout the weekend (or $104.80 on a constant currency basis).
- The top-selling cities, shoppers made purchases from, include London, New York, and Los Angeles. The United States, United Kingdom, and Canada were among the top-selling countries worldwide.
- Top product categories: Apparel & accessories, followed by health & beauty, and home & garden.
- Black Friday and Cyber Monday proved once again to be driven by online sales, with 73% of sales made on mobile devices and 27% on desktops.
- Cross-border orders represent 15% of all global orders and the most popular cross-border routes include Canada-United States, United States-Canada, and United Kingdom-United States.
- 56,000+ tonnes of carbon removal funded to counteract emissions from the delivery of every order placed on Shopify’s platform during Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend.
Consentmo during BFCM
With the big surge of customers in the different Shopify stores, it was our job to help them all stay compliant through the BFCM rush. In our humble opinion, we did amazing this year.
- In normal operation time, we have around 60k connections simultaneously and in the BFCM period, it exceeded 160k! With this amazing feat, we saw an increase of more than 166% in the connected visitors.
- The total visits per day overpassed 70 million.
- Many stores took advantage of our BF promotion, to upgrade to discounted annual plans.
- We successfully assisted big stores with even bigger traffic, some being New Era Cap, True Classics, Oh Polly, Rhinoshield, Arhaus, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, and many more.
In conclusion
This Black Friday Cyber Monday was once again a big deal. It was record-breaking on all fronts and looking at this recap makes us really proud of Shopify as a platform, the amazing Shopify merchants, and, of course, our Consentmo app. It was tough, but we were successful in providing full support to our users all the way through.
